TeamBuilder supports individual-based events, such as athletics, swimming, and cycling.
For competitions that include individual sports, there is an additional setup step required in both TeamBuilder and the player registration form (used by individuals to register).
Setup in TeamBuilder:
-
An Event grade is added.
Each competition will only include one grade of this type. Participants in disciplines (i.e. participants that aren't in a team event like a relay) will be added into this grade.
-
A Discipline grade (previously called an Individual grade) is added for each discipline taking place at the event.
A discipline is used when the participants compete as individuals (e.g. 100m Sprint)
-
If required, Team grades are added.
A team grade is used when participants compete in a team (e.g. 4x100m Relay Team)
In many cases a participant may be added to the Event grade (e.g. when competing as an individual) as well as a Team grade (e.g. when competing in a relay team).
Registration Process:
-
Individuals register either by:
-
completing the registration form themselves
or
the sports coordinator entering the individual's details (this is often the case for schools where the sports coordinator determines the individual disciplines the individual is entering)
-
-
A team is created in the Event grade.
Note: these grades, when displayed in TeamBuilder, will have a light green background compared to the white background of a Team grade The individuals are added as part of a "team of athletes" to the team in this Event grade.
Team Events:
Teams are added to the relevant Team grades.
Individuals participating in team events are added to these teams accordingly.

Discipline Grade Setup
1. From the Dashboard, click the TeamBuilder tile.
2. Click the Grade Attributes setting cog against the sport form to open Grade Attributes.
e.g. Athletics Registration
3. Click + Add Grade to add events for the sport
4. Enter the name of the Discipline grade and then click Create Grade. Repeat this for as many events as you require, then click Add to finish adding the grades.
5. Click into the Grade dropdown list and select Discipline to set the grade as a Discipline.
Please note, grade eligibility can be applied to Discipline grades as well as team grades. If grade eligibility has been set, individuals will be unable to enter the grades where they do not meet eligibility requirements.
For example, the 'Senior Girls 100m' grade could have eligibility requirements to only allow female registrants aged between 15 and 18 years old. This would prevent any male registrant as well as any registrant under 15 or over 18 years old from entering the 'Senior Girls 100m' event.
6. Competitions that use Discipline grades also require an Event grade. This is the grade that the 'team of athletes' will be entered in. This grade is created the same way as all the others but will be set as an Event grade.
When creating the competition, the Event grade will need to be selected as well as the Discipline grades.
We recommend naming the Event grade the same name as the competition itself.
Team Grades
If the event offers team events as well as disciplines (e.g. relay events), create grades for the relay teams to be entered into (e.g. Senior Girls 4x100m relay). These are created the same way as the others but won't need to be edited - all grades are created as a Team grade by default.
The competition will need an Event grade, a Discipline grade for each discipline that will be available, and a Team grade for each team event that will be available. For example:
- Event: Regional Championship
- Team: Senior Boys 4x100m Relay
- Team: Senior Girls 4x100m Relay
- Discipline: Senior Boys 100m
- Discipline: Senior Girls 100m
Once grades and grade eligibility (if required) have been set up, create a competition in TeamBuilder or in SKED. This will create a Team Entry form for your competition.
Player Registration Form Setup - Event and Qualifier Questions
Important: When registering, sections containing a Discipline question will only be shown if the individual registering is added to an Event grade.
For a participant to be entered into a discipline, the Discipline custom field question needs to be added to the player registration form. Multiple Discipline questions can be added to the form if participants are able to be entered into more than one event.
1. To do this, click the Online Registrations tile from the Dashboard. Then find the Player Registration form that was used to create the competition.
2. Click the Pencil icon to edit the Player Registration form e.g. Athletics Registration.
3. Go to the bottom of the form and click + Add New Section
a. Click +Add Question and select the Custom field type Discipline question.
If required for the sport, add a question for event qualification details (Time and/or Distance/Height). These must be included in the same section as the Discipline question.
Repeat the process of adding a section and questions for the total number of disciplines that an individual can enter in the competition.
For example, if an Athletics competition allows individuals to enter up to three events, three new sections would need to be added to the form. Each section would include a 'Discipline' question and any required questions for qualification details.
The Discipline question field is linked to the Discipline grades that have been set with a Grade Type of Discipline on the TeamBuilder Grade Attributes page.
Note: If multiple 'Discipline' questions are added to a single section, only the answer to the first one will be included in an 'Events Report'. For more information on TeamBuilder exports, and the 'Events Report', click here.
4. If registrants are required to select their events when they register, set the Discipline question to be Required by checking the 'Required' checkbox.
If registrants are required to register to multiple events, set the Discipline question to 'Required' for as many sections as required.
E.g. if each registrant is required to enter at least three disciplines, but can enter up to five disciplines, there should be a total of five sections and the Discipline question should be set to 'Required' in the first three sections.
Restricting Discipline Entry
In some cases, schools may want to control which disciplines an individual enters if they are registering themselves, rather than allowing them to select their own disciplines during registration.
In these situations, the school admin will be responsible for selecting the disciplines on behalf of the individual.
To support this, additional setup can be done to hide the 'Discipline' questions from the registration form. This ensures that individuals cannot choose their own disciplines as they register. In some cases, the competition organiser may apply this themselves to assure that Discipline selection can only be managed by administrators.
The school admin can then assign the individual to specific events as they move the individual into the team in the Event grade in TeamBuilder.
It is recommended to apply either of the setup options to restrict registrants from entering themselves in events.
See this article for these setup details.
Registering to Disciplines
To compete in a competition, individuals will be required to complete the Player Registration form for the sport. This can also be completed by the club or school administrator.
If configured to be available, the person completing the form will answer Discipline questions by selecting from the drop-down list that is populated with the Discipline grades that have been set up in TeamBuilder.
For example, an Athletics competition may include disciplines of Discus, Shot Put, Hammer Throw, and 100m Sprint. When registering, the participant would select which events they are entering for Discipline 1, Discipline 2, and Discipline 3.
It may be the sports coordinator who is adding the participant to the Event grade team. When they do this they will be prompted to select the Disciplines will be entering into.
