For the sport of Netball there is the option to select different competition game formats. This enables the different competition formats to be used in the scoring app.
The game format options are:
- Standard 7 a side
- Fast5
- 4 v 4
- 5 v 5
- 6 v 6
By default, all competitions are set to use the standard (7-a-side) format unless another is selected via the grade defaults.
How to set the competition game format
1. In SKED, go to Organisation Settings
2. Click the Grade Defaults tab and select Advanced Options
3. By default, the Game Format will be set to Standard (7 a-side)
4. Click the drop down to select another game format.

Scoring the Game
Centre Pass Rules
The Centre Pass works across the new game formats.
4 v 4, 5 v 5, and 6 v 6
- During gameplay, the non-scoring team always takes the next centre pass.
- The centre pass indicator will reflect this logic.
Fast5
- The team that starts Period 1 also starts Period 3.
- The team that starts Period 2 also starts Period 4.
- During each period, the non-scoring team takes the next centre pass.
In App Scoring Screen Layout
For 4 v 4, 5 v 5, and 6 v 6
The scoring interface displays:
- 1 Goal button
- 1 Miss button
For Fast5
The interface displays:
- 3, 2, 1 Goal buttons
- 3, 2, 1 Miss buttons
After selecting a scoring option, a pop-up appears allowing you to assign the event to either the GA or GS.
PowerPlay (Fast5 Only)
In the Fast5 format, teams must select a PowerPlay quarter before the game begins. This introduces a strategic element to scoring:
- Each team selects a different quarter for their PowerPlay. For example, if Team A selects Q1, Team B can only choose Q2, Q3, or Q4.
- Teams can change their PowerPlay quarter at any time before or during the match. Any changes won’t affect previously recorded events but will update point values for future scoring.
Visual Indicators
- A PowerPlay indicator will display in the app when a team is in their chosen quarter.
Scoring During PowerPlay
During a PowerPlay quarter:
- The PowerPlay team sees scoring buttons of 6, 4, 2 points.
- The opposing team continues to see 3, 2, 1 point options.
- Events scored in this quarter will appear in the match timeline with their doubled value. E.g. a normal 2-point goal becomes a “4 point goal”.
