What is the Game Day Player feature?
Netball allows someone who isn’t officially associated with the team, but who’s filling in for a specific game, to be recorded against the team by completing a Game Day Player registration form on the day (payments aren’t facilitated through this form). This player can then be invited to register directly with the club or school to play in future games, either via SuperCRM filtering or through Online Registrations.
Once enabled by your Netball Centre, this feature is on by default for every grade in your competitions. When enabled, the team manager at the game can select an option to Add Game Day Player. This brings up a simple registration form called Game Day Player, where the person’s details are entered. Once submitted, this adds the game day player to the team for that game, and they appear just like the rest of the team.
This is useful for keeping a history of who has played for you and contributed to games. It also lets the Centre create a filter in SuperCRM to see all Game Day Players and their data.
When exporting game day event reports, a game day player appears with no official team listed, but their specific game day information appears beside their name. This is visible to both the Centre (via SKED Game Events Reports) and the club/school (via TeamBuilder Game Reports).
Players registered via the Game Day Player form won’t be visible on the Netball Registration form in TeamBuilder and Online Registrations, since these are two separate databases/forms. These players also won’t appear on the consolidated report against the Netball Registration form.
Enable/Disable Allow game day players
Note: This is only possible once the Netball Centre has requested the feature be enabled for their organisation and affiliated clubs and schools.
The Centre can enable or disable this feature in two ways:
- Organisation settings - set the standard per grade before the competition starts.
- Phase settings - update specific grade(s) in a phase after the competition has begun.
Organisation Settings
1. Log in to your Sporty site and navigate to SKED.
2. Click the organisation settings cog.
3. Click Grade Defaults, then Advanced Options beside the grade(s) you want to enable or disable the feature for.
4. By default, Allow game day players is enabled (shown ticked). To disable it, untick the box and click Done.
Phase Settings
1. In the Comp Builder tab, click the phase settings cog.
2. Click Advanced Options beside the appropriate grade(s).
3. By default, Allow game day players is ticked. Untick it to disable the feature for that grade. Click Done to save. If disabled for a grade, there’s no option for a team manager to add a game day player via the scoring app.
MyNetball Manager App
When Allow game day players is enabled, the app shows Add Player rather than Pick from other squad when selecting the team for the game.
1. Click Add Player.
You’ll then see two options:
- Add game day player - add a person who’s playing casually for this game.
- Pick from other teams - select a registered player from a different team to play in your game.
2. Click Add game day player.
3. The Game Day Player registration form opens with the Fixture ID pre-populated, specific to the game you’re adding the player to.
Payments aren’t facilitated through this registration form. Centres that require payment as part of the game day player process can continue using their existing process for payment prior to registration, as outlined here.
Enter the game day player’s details and click Submit.
4. The game day player appears among your other selected players. Remember to click Done once you’ve selected your full team for the game.
Exporting Team Reports
When exporting a team report such as Player Stats, a game day player who was added on the day of the game is included in the report - but with no information in the Official Grade or Official Team columns, since they’re not an official team member.
Viewing game day players
The Centre and affiliated clubs and schools will have a new registration form visible in Online Registrations called Game Day Player. The Centre can run a consolidated report, or create a filter in SuperCRM, to view everyone registered on the Game Day Player form.
FAQs
Q. Can additional questions be asked when completing the Game Day Player form?
A. Yes - the Netball Centre can edit the Game Day Player form via Online Registrations to add questions.
Q. What’s the process if a game day player wants to play again?
A. If the player hasn’t registered with the club or school using the official Netball Registration form - and was instead added directly to a team via TeamBuilder - they’ll need to register using the Game Day Player form. Check with your Centre for any specific requirements.
Q. I’m a team manager and can’t see the option to add a Game Day Player in the MyNetball Manager scoring app.
A. The ability to add a Game Day Player is either not enabled by your Netball Centre, or not enabled for your team’s grade. Contact your Netball Centre directly with any questions about which grades allow game day players.
Q. Are Game Day Players officially registered with my club, school, or Netball Centre?
A. No. Adding someone to a team via the Game Day Player form is just a way of recording that they played for your team — it doesn’t register them. To become an officially registered player, they’ll need to complete the official Netball Registration Form for your club or school.
Q. Can I take payment on the Game Day Player form?
A. No, payments aren’t facilitated on the Game Day Player form. As outlined here, Centres use their existing process to manage payments required prior to registration.
Q. How do I invite Game Day Players back to register with my club or school?
A. If you’ve enabled SuperCRM for your club, you can create a filter to show only players registered using the Game Day Player form. From there, select all results or specific people, and send a communication inviting them to register officially - be sure to include the link to your official Netball Registration Form.
Q. Can the Centre run a consolidated report from the Game Day Player form?
A. Yes - the Centre can run a consolidated report against the Game Day Player form. Centres can also filter in SuperCRM to view players registered against it.
