A customer relationship management system (CRM) can be transformational for organisations if it is used effectively. The main reasons that organisations adopt a CRM are:
- To manage up-to-date contact lists for customers, members, suppliers, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- To replace the habit people otherwise have of collating separate disparate contact lists in Excel, Google sheets, paper, Outlook, etc.
- To retain historical knowledge that often disappears when people leave an organisation.
- To make it easy for everyone to understand the status of a contact at a glance and see the most recent communication with them.
- To make it easy for different people within an organisation to pick up an open dialogue.
- To provide reports and insights for management decisions and reporting purposes.
- To make it easy to segment contacts and easily communicate with groups to meet organisational objectives.
The biggest barrier to the success of a CRM is the failure of people to use or update it. For a CRM to be effective, the organisation must develop and maintain a culture of using it. Once people become accustomed to using a CRM, it becomes a positive and useful habit. The discipline of using a CRM normally starts with organisational policy that must be encouraged or enforced by management.
Using a CRM needs to become a day-to-day activity that is part of every person’s role. To help people achieve this, there are some simple practical steps that organisations should use for every person in the organisation:
- Add a shortcut icon for SuperCRM to your desktop screen on your computer.
- Set SuperCRM to open automatically each time you start your computer.
- Make SuperCRM one of the default tabs that opens whenever you open your internet browser.
- Add a shortcut icon for SuperCRM to the home screen of your phone.
Instructions for each of these are detailed below.
1. Add a shortcut icon for SuperCRM to your desktop screen on your computer.
- Right-click your mouse on your desktop (background screen) then click New and click Shortcut from the menu that appears...
- Type https://www.sporty.co.nz/crm for the location and click the Next button...
- Type the name SuperCRM and click the Finish button...
- If you look carefully, you'll see that you now have a SuperCRM shortcut icon somewhere on your computer desktop (home screen background)...
In future, you can simply click this icon to launch SuperCRM directly for you.
Notes: if you launch SuperCRM and see a login screen, you can click the Remember Me checkbox to bypass the login screen in the future. If your login has access to more than one organisation using Sporty, then it will try to launch SuperCRM for whichever organisation you were most recently logged into. You can change between different organisations by going to the Sporty Dashboard and clicking the dropdown arrow beside the organisation name.
2. Set SuperCRM to open automatically each time you start your computer.
- Press the key on your keyboard with the Windows logo + R key. This will open the Run command box. In the Run command field, type shell:startup and then click the OK button...
- This will open your Windows startup folder. Now look at your desktop (home screen background) to find the SuperCRM shortcut that you created following the instructions in Step 1 earlier in this support article. Then right-click on the SuperCRM shortcut icon and click Copy. Then right-click in your Windows startup folder and click Paste so that a copy of the SuperCRM shortcut appears there...
Now, whenever you restart your computer, SuperCRM will launch for you automatically.
3. Make SuperCRM one of the default tabs that opens whenever you open your internet browser.
- If you use Chrome as your internet browser, type chrome://settings/onStartup into your browser address bar and press the Enter key. Then click the radio button to Open a specific page or set of pages and click the link to Add a new page...
- Then type www.sporty.co.nz/crm into the Site URL box and click the Add button...
Now SuperCRM will automatically open in a tab for you whenever you open your Chrome internet browser.
- If you use Edge as your internet browser, type edge://settings/startHomeNTP into your browser address bar and press the Enter key. Then click the radio button to Open these pages and click the button Add a new page...
- Then type www.sporty.co.nz/crm into the Enter a URL box and click the Add button...
Now SuperCRM will automatically open in a tab for you whenever you open your Edge internet browser.
4. Add a shortcut icon for SuperCRM to the home screen of your phone.
- If your phone is an iOS device such as an iPhone using the Safari internet browser, then go to www.sporty.co.nz/crm. If you are required to login, tick the checkbox to Remember Me so that it will bypass the login screen next time. Once you are looking at SuperCRM, tap the share icon at the bottom of your screen, then scroll down until you see the menu item Add to Home Screen. Tap this and type the name SuperCRM, then tap the Add button.
A shortcut icon for SuperCRM will now appear on your iPhone home screen. If you already have a number of pages of icons for your other apps, you can move the position of the SuperCRM icon by pressing and holding the icon until it appears to be shaking, then drag & drop it between screens to move it to your first home screen.
- If your phone is an Android device such as a Samsung using the Chrome internet browser, then go to www.sporty.co.nz/crm. If you are required to login, tick the checkbox to Remember Me so that it will bypass the login screen next time. Once you are looking at SuperCRM, tap the 3 vertical dots at the top right of your screen, then scroll down until you see the menu item Add to Home Screen. Tap this and type the name SuperCRM, then tap the Add button.
