When a player in Football or Futsal suffers a concussion, Sporty provides a feature called ‘Concussion Standdown’ to help clubs and administrators keep players safe by managing their enforced period away from play. This feature ensures players who require medical standdown due to concussion are automatically prevented from re-joining games until they are cleared.
Only users with the correct permissions (e.g. Referees or Competition Managers) can apply a concussion standdown. This article explains how to create and edit a Concussion Report, and the restrictions that apply for team selection when a concussion report has been applied to a player.

What Happens When a Standdown is in place?
While a concussion standdown is active:
The affected player cannot be added to teamsheets using the Sporty app or web platform.
A message appears to coaches, managers, or team selectors advising the player is under concussion standdown.
The player’s profile will indicate the reason and the standdown period (e.g. ‘Standdown: Concussion, ends 03/07/2026’).
This prevents accidental or unauthorised selection for any match during the rest period.
A concussion report registration is created that will appear on the Players Profile, and can be viewed by the Competition Owner and NZF.
The Concussion Report can also be viewed in the Online Registrations database for the Competition Owner.
Clearing or Modifying a Player's Concussion Standdown period
If a Federation or NZF need to make a modification to the player's concussion stand-down date, to extend the concussion period, or remove the stand-down due to the person being medically cleared, this can be actioned by opening the Concussion Report.
Open the Concussion Report against the player though Online Registrations or SuperCRM.

If early clearance is permitted and approved by your governing body, you can edit the standdown period:
Click the Edit pencil next to the registration record.
Open the Incident Details section
Modify or remove the suspension from play date
Add notes if desired
Click Save.
