A Certificate of Description is required for some historical events. Owners obtain this certificate for their historical vehicle to prove it's what it claims to be - a correctly built classic vehicle. The CoD certificate number is added to your vehicle record, and a PDF certificate of the approved application is sent by MSNZ.
Completing the Application
A CoD Application can only be submitted by the vehicle owner. Go to your vehicle record, expand the Vehicle History section, and click + Form. Select Certificate of Description Application from the dropdown. The vehicle details are pre-filled - complete all other fields, then click Submit. A payment cart will appear for you to pay any fees. MSNZ will then review your application.

Application Status
- Approved - MSNZ has reviewed the application and all conditions are satisfied.
- Declined - MSNZ has reviewed and declined the application.
Submitting the Application
An application can be edited if it hasn't yet been approved by MSNZ — this lets you gather all the required information before submitting. To edit, click the edit application button. Once you've completed the application, check the declaration box so MSNZ knows it's ready to be processed.
When Approved
Once an application is approved, a certificate number is generated and displayed on your vehicle's profile.
A PDF certificate will be created and sent to you by MSNZ.
Certificate of Description Audit
At a historical event, a CoD Audit may be required. The auditor will review your CoD application and check that everything on the vehicle complies with the certificate.
