Triggers allow for products and discounts to be automatically selected when a person answers a specific question on a form. Triggers are set up against a product or discount, and once set up, triggers do not allow for product or discount to be removed from the cart upon submission.
Note: this is a premium feature and will only be available if your organisation has this unlocked. Please contact support@sportsground.com for further information.
This article includes the following:
Adding a trigger
1. When a product has been added the Automate column will appear with Trigger (0) underneath.
Click Trigger (0).
Note: If you do not have Triggers unlocked, you will see the below popup on your screen.
2. A popup will appear that allows you to set the specific conditions for your trigger.
- If: Select the question from your form that you want the trigger to be associated to.
- is answered with: Select the answer that you want the trigger to respond to. When this answer is selected, the trigger will automatically change the product value. (This field is optional - see Value not specified below for more information).
- then increase item quantity by: The product quantity is increased based on the value set in this field. For example, if you want the product to increase by 1 when your selected question is answered, you will enter 1.
Please note that you can add multiple triggers to the same product.
3. Once you have selected the specific fields for the trigger, click Save Trigger. This will open a new popup which allows you to review all triggers that have been set up for this specific product.
You can add another trigger to the same product by clicking + New Trigger, or click Done to close the popup and return to the form to either repeat the process for another product, or to review your changes.
Example: Setting a trigger
We want 1 of the product, Level: Beginner to automatically be added to the cart if Beginner is selected when answering our question asking which level the registrant is entering.
If: Level.
Is answered with: Beginner
Then increase item quantity by: 1
We click Save Trigger to set the trigger and the below popup appears.
All triggers that have been set on this product will appear here for you to combine the trigger using the numbered points icon, or to modify the trigger using the edit pencil icon, or to delete the trigger using the red trash can icon.
We need to add triggers for our other two levels of intermediate and elite. Click Done on the popup reviewing the triggers for that specific product. Now we repeat the process on intermediate and elite.
When we return to the form, we now see that Trigger (0) has now changed to Trigger (1) as we have applied 1 trigger per product in this example.
Click Save Form when you are finished editing your form.
Example: Reviewing the trigger
On the form when the registrant selects which level they are, the associated product will be added to the cart. We have chosen to have the products hidden as these are a mandatory charge when submitting the form.
How the form appears before Level is indicated.
How the form then changes after Beginner has been selected for the question field Level.
If Intermediate or Elite had been selected, then their respective fee would be displayed. As we have hidden the products unless triggered, we remove the ability from the registrant to alter the cart as the product is mandatory.
Value not specified
If you do not need a specific answer to a question to trigger the automated purchase, leave the is answered with field should be left blank. The product will automatically be added if the question is answered.
Example:
On a form there is a question 'Member ID number' that is a SingleLine Text field.
The requirement is for the trigger to be invoked and a product added if a member ID number is entered into this field. When you click to set the trigger the is answered with option is set to value.
This shows that if the question is answered then the product is added.
Adding an expiration date to a trigger
You may have a trigger that you only want to be active for a limited time. This most typically would be used for discounts. Please see this article here for further information about discounts and how to use the feature correctly.
On each trigger that you set there is the option to Add Expiry Date.
Tick the checkbox beside Add Expiry Date and select which date you would like to apply trigger until.
Click Save Trigger when you are happy with your settings.
Form view:
Remember that the trigger for Promo code will only trigger the product until the 31st of October 2023 as we set in the trigger set up above.
Before the promo code has been entered.
After the correct promo code of 15479 has been entered by the registrant.
