A phone number can be turned into a clickable link that will open a dial dialog on smartphones, and mobile devices. This allows for those visiting the site to easily click the phone number to make a direct call rather than having to copy the number, enter it into your phone and hitting call.
How to make a phone number clickable
1. Enter the phone number as text into the text widget.
2. Highlight the phone number and copy it by right clicking and selecting copy (or by pressing ctrl+c). Then click the chain link button to add a link to the selected characters.
3. A pop-up will open with options to associate to your highlighted text. Click the drop-down for Protocol and select the option <other>.
4. In the space provided under URL, enter the prefix "tel:" then paste the copied number directly next to it.
5. Click OK when finished.
6. Click Save on the text tool.
Link displayed
When viewing your website, the phone number will now be underlined - showing that it is a clickable link.
If you click this link using a computer, you will most likely be asked to select an application to open the link with. For example, Skype.
If you click the link on your mobile device will display the number as below. When you click the link, a system message will appear and you will be taken to your phone application where the number will be automatically populated.
