Competition organisers may find it useful to create a test draw (phase), prior to the competition starting, to enable scorers to have the opportunity to practice scoring a game in the Game Day App. We recommend this is done by adding a phase to the existing competition. Note: This test phase can be deleted after it is no longer required.
Below are the steps on how you can do this.
- Create a phase in SKED called Game Day App Testing
- Add two preferred dates. Choose dates prior to the upcoming season so there is no confusion with the teams that these are test games for them to score. Note: For grades with an uneven number of teams containing a Bye, a third date can be added to phase settings to ensure that all teams have at least 2 games to practice scoring. This can be a double header if required by adding the same date twice and selecting “Fill all venues at first preferred time then use alternate time” in the preferred time settings. See this support article.
- To ensure there is sufficient venue capacity to accommodate for all games to be played on the selected dates, the Total Game Duration, Preferred Times and Preferred Venues can be edited in the Phase Settings
- In the Advanced Options of Phase Settings, increase the number of teams per draw to the highest number of teams in any of the chosen grades. This is to ensure that only one section is required per grade to build the test draw.
- Save Phase Settings
- Add teams to the section in each grade by selecting the Go button or drag and drop the teams into the section
- Rename each section to “App Testing” in each grade
- Select Generate Draw
- Select Add to Calendar
- For the test games to be visible on the scoring app, Publish Draw needs to be ticked in Draws & Results. This can be done in bulk by filtering all dates involved in the test draw, selecting Bulk Edit and selecting Publish All Draws.
- If the season draw has already been prepared, published and displayed on the website, temporarily unpublishing it is recommended to avoid scorers accidently scoring the season games. To retain a public view of the season draw, temporarily hide the website draws & results widget and display a PDF export of the upcoming draw while Game Day App testing is underway.
- Once Game Day App testing is completed, delete the App Testing phase, remove the PDF export and unhide the draws & results widget.
